La Quinta Resort

One of the oldest features of the La Quinta, before it was an official city, is the La Quinta Resort. In 1926 Walter Morgan opened the La Quinta Hotel as a retreat because of the dry climate as a destination location. This has been a hangout of Hollywood celebrities since the 1930s with frequent gusts such as Clark Gable, Frank Capra, Shirley Temple along with other stars. This was one of the valley’s first 9-hole golf course, and now the desert is considered one of the world’s top golf destinations with hundreds of courses throughout the valley floor. In the 50’s it attracted people like President Dwight Eisenhower, which is one reason for the street, school, and hospital names that you will see Eisenhower’s name throughout the valley.

Eventually, this became home to one of the PGA Bob Hope Classic tournament courses, which attracts many professional golfers to our area.

You may not be staying at the La Quinta Resort, but I highly recommend that you venture out to that location to walk the grounds and eat at one of the fantastic restaurants. There are fine dining and casual dining available with a variety of options for anyone’s palette.
